Patrick J. Droste, MD – President
Doctor Droste has been a member of the Kent County Medical Society (KCMS) since September 1987. Born in Detroit, he graduated from the University of Detroit and received his medical degree from Wayne State University in 1980. He took his internship and residency program in Ophthalmology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and is board certified in Ophthalmology as well as Pediatric Ophthalmology and Ocular Modality.
Doctor Droste, a past Director of KCMS, is a Delegate to the Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) and is Past President of the Michigan Society of Eye Surgeon and Physicians. His practice is Pediatric Ophthalmology, P.C.
Anita R. Avery, MD – Past President
Doctor Avery has been a member of the Kent County Medical Society since November 2002. Born in the Netherlands, she graduated from Calvin College and received her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in 1998. She took her internship and residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Stanford University.
Doctor Avery is President of KCMS for 2009, is a Delegate to the Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) House of Delegates. She is a member of MSMS, the AMA and Saint Mary’s Health Care medical staff with a practice with Advantage Health.
Gregory J. Forzley, MD - President-Elect
Doctor Forzley has been elected Kent County Medical Society President-Elect for 2010. He has been a member of the Kent County Medical Society since 1982. He was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. After graduating from the University of Michigan, Doctor Forzley received his medical degree from Wayne State University Medical School in 1978. He did his Internship and Residency at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids. He is Board Certified in Family Practice. Doctor Forzley is the Medical Director of Informatics for Saint Mary’s Health Care. He currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Michigan State Medical Society.
David E. Hammond, MD – Secretary/Treasurer
Born in Charlotte, Michigan, Doctor Hammond graduated from Olivet College and received his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He did his internship and residency at Bronson/Borgess Hospitals in Kalamazoo as well as a fellowship in Dermatology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Hammond is in private practice.
Doctor Hammond has been a member of the Kent County Medical Society since 1980. He was elected to a 3 year term as a KCMS Director in 2005 before becoming Secretary/Treasurer in 2008.
Lee P. Begrow, DO
Doctor Begrow was born in Royal Oak, Michigan and graduated from Michigan State University. He received his medical degree from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He practices with Spectrum Health Medical Group and specializes in Family Practice. In 2009, The Grand Rapids Press listed him as a “Top Family Physician” in Grand Rapids.
Doctor Begrow has been a member of the Kent County Medical Society since 1991. He was elected Director in 2007. He is also an Alternate Delegate to the Michigan State Medical Society House of Delegates.
David W. Whalen, MD
Doctor Whalen was born in Pontiac, Michigan, and graduated from the University of Toledo. He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan specializing in Emergency Medicine, and works at St. Mary’s Health Care.
Doctor Whalen has been a member of the Kent County Medical Society since 2007. He became a Director in 2008. He is also an Alternate Delegate to the Michigan State Medical Society House of Delegates.
Philip G. Wise, MD
Doctor Wise was born in Las Vegas, Nevada and graduated from the University of Southern California where he also got his medical degree. He completed his internship and residency in General Surgery and Urology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr. Wise practices at Urologic Consultants, P.C. in Grand Rapids.
Doctor Wise has participated in a medical mission to Nigeria to vaccinate children against polio.
